ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT A PUPPY?

A puppy is going to cry, whine, and fuss loudly the first several nights in his new home. This is normal. He is a baby, and he misses his familiar environment, his mom, and his litter mates. I assure you that you and everyone else in your household will loose some sleep.

A puppy is going to chew whatever he finds, and will eventually ruin something or several things that belong to you or your family members. He does not know any better. This is not his fault. It is yours. It is your job to keep your home puppy proof. What ever he finds on the floor is a toy for him as far as he is concerned.

A puppy is going to go pee and poop wherever the need strikes him. That includes your bed, your beautiful carpet, your couch, etc... Again, he is a baby. He does not know any better, yet. It is your job to teach him. A student's success is only as good as his teacher. House training can be a long, grueling job. I offer you a word of advice here: ROUTINE, ROUTINE, ROUTINE!!! You must stick to this task, no matter what the weather, no matter how bad you may feel, no matter how busy you are. Your puppy should be fully house trained by the time he is 6 months. He may still have the occasional accident when left alone for awhile. If he is not house trained by this age, you need to ask yourself what you are doing wrong.

If you handle any of the situations talked about above in the wrong manner, such as hitting, spanking, screaming at your dog, he will become afraid of you. He may even become a submissive urinater (pees a little bit whenever you approach him). You think house training was tough, now try to fix this problem.

Sooner or later you will have to go to the vet for something other than routine care. He may somehow hurt himself, he may eat something not meant to be consumed, he may get sick. Vet care is not cheap. Actually, it's pretty darned expensive.

How much do you love your pretty yard? Dachshunds love to dig. Let me repeat myself. Dachshunds love to dig. It is in their nature. I have found it easier to provide them with an area they are allowed to dig in (mine have a sandbox) than to fight it.

Healthy Dachshunds can live a very long time. Usually 12 - 15 is the average age. My oldest lived to 18. That's 15 years of vet care, 15 years of premium dog food, 15 years of toys. 15 years of having to make plans for your dog every time you go on vacation. It's not always easy to find an excellent boarding facility. And they're not cheap.

So I ask again, are you sure you want a puppy? Do the other members in your home still want a puppy? Well if the answer is yes, then continue to the application below!

Please do not be offended by the many questions I ask. My puppies are my babies and I just want to be sure to be able to place them into the best homes possible. Please be honest with your answers. There is no "wrong" answer that will cause me to immediately say no. If I have a concern with one of your answers, I will address it and hopefully we can resolve the issue!  When you are finished, click the "SUBMIT" button at the bottom of the page.

If you do not receive a response from me within 3 days please email me again. I always respond to all emails in that time frame. If you still do not hear from me the second time, that means I am not receiving the emails. This includes application submissions as well. You may then call me at 302-422-7056.

ALL QUESTIONS REQUIRE AN ANSWER OR APPLICATION WILL NOT SUBMIT. IF THE QUESTION DOES NOT PERTAIN TO YOU JUST PLACE  "NA" IN THE BOX.

APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WILL NOT BE  CONSIDERED, NOR RECEIVE A RESPONSE.
